Podiatry in Plymouth
Our HCPC registered podiatrist cares for feet: routine foot and nail care, foot pain, and skin problems affecting the feet.
About podiatry at City Clinic
Podiatry is a professional branch of healthcare dealing with the foot, ankle and leg. Podiatrists can treat a wide range of conditions, from foot pain to more complex issues such as sports injuries and complications of diabetes, as well as everyday nail and foot care.
Podiatry at City Clinic is provided by Sound Steps Podiatry, an HCPC registered podiatrist practising from the clinic. Routine care is the heart of it: corns, callus, verrucae, ingrowing toenails, thickened nails and fungal skin or nail infections.
What podiatry involves
Podiatrist and chiropodist are two names for the same profession, and both titles are protected by law: anyone using either must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. A podiatrist diagnoses and treats disorders, diseases and deformities of the feet.
UK podiatrists qualify through a course approved by the Health and Care Professions Council. They work in the NHS and in independent practice, often alongside doctors, nurses and physiotherapists, and the point of the work is keeping people mobile, independent and active.
About your podiatrist
Podiatry at City Clinic is provided by Clare Jones, owner of Sound Steps Podiatry. Clare qualified from Plymouth University in 2008 and has worked in the NHS ever since. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, registration CH31184.
Clare opened Sound Steps in November 2025 to bring back the routine foot care that has disappeared from the NHS over recent years. Alongside treatment on the day, she offers guidance on self care, so you know how to look after your feet between visits.

Questions
Common questions
Is a podiatrist the same as a chiropodist?
Yes. Podiatrist is the modern name for the same HCPC registered profession.
Do you treat people with diabetes?
Yes. Our podiatrist treats corns, callus, verrucae, ingrowing toenails, thickened nails and fungal skin or nail infections, and sees people living with diabetes.
What training does a podiatrist have?
UK podiatrists complete a qualification approved by the Health and Care Professions Council, and must be on the HCPC register to use the title podiatrist or chiropodist. Clare qualified from Plymouth University in 2008 and has worked in the NHS ever since.
Can I book just for routine foot care?
Yes. Routine care is the heart of the clinic: corns, callus, verrucae, ingrowing toenails, thickened nails and fungal skin or nail infections. You are also welcome to simply give your feet some TLC and get guidance on caring for them yourself.
